Pandora.com: Auto-discovery of music similar to what you like
This is neat: pandora.com. You type in a song, and it immediately starts playing songs with a similar genre, tempo, style, etc. You can guide it with the options shown below.

I've been listening to Pandora for a few months now. Before that my roommate would listen to it and I'd have to ask after every track to find out who the artist was.
I listen to the Mark Mothersbaugh stream: rarely a track I don't like.

Hi Jeff - I'll check out that Mark Mothersbaugh stream. Also wondering how Pandora compares to last.fm, which seems to be a similar service.

I tried last.fm out briefly, but I didn't like it. It wasn't in-browser like Pandora (although perhaps that's changed now) and its song selections didn't seem right.
I've used Pandora for quite a while and have been very happy. Bought a few CDs because of it, and found a new favourite band (Keane).
I've also made a few suggestions (direct control of the "expression" of the musical genes using sliding bars, as in StoryCode.com) and have received quick, friendly responses.
