  • Hi Jon, stumbled onto your blog while Googling for a freeware image editor that will allow me to remove a horizontal or vertical chunk and that will then join up the remaining parts. I know that SnagIt can do that but SnagIt is not freeware. Any leads? Thanks.

  • Hi Anon - SnagIt's basically a screen capture program (for capturing the whole screen or a portion of it), so it's probably not what you're looking for (though if you are looking for a freeeware screen-capture program, MWSnap is quite good).

    Can't think of a tool that will let you pick out a strip of pixels and have it join the remaining two sides together. The only thing I can think of is to do it manually with a graphics editor (like MS Paint).

  • Hi Jon, thanks for your reply. The Join tool in SnagIt did exactly what I needed. Essentially, I screen grabbed a forum thread discussion and wanted to cut out the noise from the signal so SnagIt came in very handy for that as well as other purposes. Now, if I can just find something at the right price before the trial period expires :). As I cannot bring myself to crack SnagIt or run a keygen for SnagIt, the search for a freeware alternative continues ... Nice blog by the way, have bookmarked it.
